The „Concept Map” has been conceived of as a graphic supplement of the “Dictionary of Landscape Concepts” supposed to present relationships between the terms included in it. The map is intended to illustrate a possible complex approach to issues discussed in the “Dictionary”, i.e. the approach we assume in our research.
The “Map” is inspired by the idea of concept maps as developed by D. Martin (1994), or M. Davies (2011) who treat them as means useful not only in presenting a body of knowledge, but also in fostering new question and thus in broadening knowledge.
We are fully aware that our “Map” is arbitrary as it has inherited the bias of all the decision we made while we were preparing the “Dictionary”. What is more it is even more biased as it results from a series of resolutions concerning the way the concepts were to be located and related. We are also conscious that the “Map”, just like any other map, is just a projection and that it may not pretend to be “objective” in any way.
We hope that the “Map” will be useful as a map, i.e. as a tool helpful in finding one’s way or ways through the field of landscape. These itineraries do not have to follow those we suggested.
