Landscape art is an art which problematizes landscape; a mode of approaching the latter through a critical appraisal. It transcends mere representation (rudimentarily construed landscape), subjecting it to artistic analysis and interpretation (through a work of art). It may assume the form of artistic intervention (action), which penetrates into the existing landscape endowing it with new meanings; as a result its signification is permanently or temporarily transformed. Landscape art is a kind of art-mediated discourse which addresses issues (ecological, spatial, social, aesthetic etc.) which are crucial for landscape, be it natural or urban. It is not a current in art but rather a form of artistic involvement which may find its manifestations in a range of disciplines (architecture, film, photography, installation, performance, or sculptures), directions (land art, environmental art, murals, etc.) and in particular creative works or undertakings.
